New housing minister appointed

Tue 9th January 2018, 12:34 pm

As part of the government's reshuffle this week, Dominic Raab MP has been appointed minister of state for housing.

Raab will take over from Alok Sharma MP, who has been appointed as minister of state for employment. He will work alongside Sajid Javid MP, who was reappointed as secretary of state for communities and local government.

The news came after the government announced the Department for Communities and Local Government will be renamed as the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government, to emphasise the importance of delivering new homes.

Raab, the 15th housing minister in 17 years, will be responsible for delivering the government's housing strategy. Last October, the government announced a £2 billion boost for homes aimed at being affordable, which will support local authorities and housing associations achieve their housebuilding ambitions.

At Sitematch London on 8 February 2018, a briefing session will take place where delegates can learn more about the challenges and opportunties that housing associations will face in 2018.
