Property research data has found approximately a one-third increase of build-to-rent homes in various stages of development since the beginning of 2017.

Commissioned by the British Property Federation, and produced by estate agent Savills, the report found 117,893 homes in development, up from 90,761 homes in the year running from early 2017 to 2018.

Jacqui Daly, director at Savills residential investment research and strategy, said: "At this rate of growth, we expect that the build-to-rent pipeline could double to around 200,000 within the next two years."

One notable outcome of the study shows that half of all private rental sector (PRS) developments in the country take place in London.

At Sitematch London in February 2018, a briefing session hosted by Knight Frank discussed how placemaking can be achieved through PRS delivery.
